5 Beard Grooming Tips for the Summer

5 Beard Grooming Tips for the Summer

The summer months are raging on and with that comes blistering heat and increased outdoor activities! These three months can either be a challenging time for a beardsman or something you’ll breeze right through. It all depends on how you take care of your beard through the summer months. Different seasons call for new ways to groom your beard. Instead of cutting off the beard and starting again in the winter months, you can make the summer a lot more breathable and bearable. Here are some of the best grooming tips you’ll need for your beard this summer.

Hydration for the Body & Beard

We’re naturally inclined to go out more in the summer months. Sweltering temperatures combined with a lot more time outside can get us dehydrated fast. Water is your lifeblood and will keep you hydrated and your circulatory system flowing. Less water, means your beard follicles won’t be stimulated. This is a natural form of protection and very easy to accomplish. Make sure to always do the following:
  • Keep a reusable water bottle on hand when you’re out and about.
  • Drink water the first thing you do when you wake up.
  • Avoid excessive dehydrants in the summer heat.
Staying hydrated will keep your beard at an equilibrium. When you don’t drink enough water you start to see it in your beard. Dry bristles be gone!

Beating the Summer Heat

In the summer, paired with the humidity and heat your beard can actually start looking a lot fuller. Instead of fighting the naturalness of your beard in the heat, embrace it. You’ll want to avoid scratching your beard and drying it out. Make sure to comb your beard down so you maintain that natural moisture without letting it get too frizzy. Naturally, it’ll begin to curl in even you usually have a straight beard. By staying hydrated and combing your beard out, you can use the sun and heat to your advantage! Not to mention, you’ll be getting some great natural vitamin D and the beard will be getting that sunkissed lighter look.

Beach Bummin & Moisturizing

There’s no better way to get cool in the summer than to go to the beach or pool. When you hop in that water your beard becomes a magnificent sea creature. The tangles and ringlets become the envy of all as they bounce and swirl in the depths. A small amount of salt water can be a healing force for your follicles. But you also have to be careful about the water actively dehydrating your beard once you start drying off. Before getting into the pool – especially a chlorinated one, it’s best to wet your beard beforehand. This way your beard will absorb less of the chlorine that could be potentially damaging.    Dry your beard out by patting it down and not roughing it up. After the beach it’s best to use a beard cream to moisturize it and get back some of the oils that were stripped away.

Beard Oil as Sunscreen

Beards aren’t just great to have in the winter to protect against the cold. The hairs on your face act as a natural blocker of the sun. The skin nestled beneath the strands of your hair are protected by harmful UV rays. Applying beard oil to your face can get as a natural sunscreen. The lighter consistency of the oil will spread evenly throughout to keep things soft and fresh. After being in the sun all day, a good beard shampooing will do wonders. It’ll help you maintain that new color from the sun’s rays and maintain optimum moisture levels. All the while, your beard is doing the work by keeping your skin safe.

Persevering With Strategic Trims

You never want to completely eliminate your beard because of the weather or grooming neglect. Under any circumstances, anyone can learn how to grow a beard. But sometimes, a light trim can do wonders in the summer months.
  • Here are some of the areas that could use a tune-up if you can’t stand the heat.
  • Trim the mustache line to get the hair out of your lip. Summertime favorites like burgers and barbequed ribs will be that much easier to eat and enjoy.
  • Cut off dead and split ends if you didn’t properly moisturize throughout the summer or colder months.
  • Try out lighter beard styles or check into the barbershop for a new look.
As much as you don’t want to admit it, summer will end. But your beard doesn’t have to. Weather through the sun filled months and enjoy your beard by using these summer grooming tips!
